Teen/Student Counselors

These counselors are rising ninth graders through college-age. They are leaders and well-grounded in their Christian faith. We ask that all counselors go through the Camp Hope training and can commit to the entire week of camp. Younger teens are typically grouped with one or two younger campers. Juniors, seniors, college students, and older may pair with one or two older campers in the Leadership Training Academy. We have high expectations for our counselors because we depend on them to oversee their campers. The teen or college counselor is not only a counselor, but a mentor, sister/brother, and friend for the whole week.

Cabin Leaders

Cabin Leaders are responsible for the day-to-day operations of a camp cabin of four to six campers and counselors. They set the example for the campers and counselors in their cabin. Cabin leaders are expected to be problem-solvers and keep their cabin on the daily schedule. We ask that only individuals who have served at Camp Hope before apply for this position, and priority is given to older teens or college students.

Adult Counselors

Adult Counselors, too, play an essential role at camp! They’re assigned to a cabin where they work with the Cabin Leader to oversee teen or college counselors and campers. Adult Counselors provide support through prayer, advice, and encouragement to the counselors and campers. They help nourish the counselor and camper relationships and maintain the cabin “family.” Adult Counselors also help manage camper behavior. They are the “moms” and “dads” of the cabin.

KidzKamp

Children of adult volunteers who are too young to serve in a cabin (rising 7th graders and below – must be “potty trained”) may participate in KidzKamp to enable their parent to serve as an Adult Counselor. These children have their own cabin, counselors and exciting schedule at Camp Hope! Please note: We are unable to predict the number and ages of children who will sign up for KidzKamp. It is possible your child may be the only one of his or her age in the program. Regardless of this, our staff will do everything possible to provide your child with a fun and safe camp experience. KidzKamp is first-come, first-served!

Special Area Roles

Adults are needed to lead and direct special programs and activities through the week of camp.

  • Arts & Crafts: Creative adults are needed to plan and lead arts and crafts activities for our Cornerstone boy and girls campers.
  • Medical: Adults with medical training and expertise are needed at check-in at Mt. Bethel and each day at Camp Hope.
  • Leadership Teacher: Adults interested in teaching leadership and interpersonal skills are needed for the week to plan curriculum and teach our campers in the Leadership Training Academy.
  • KidzKamp: College students and adults are needed to plan activities and lead KidzKamp for our children of volunteers.
  • Worship team: This crew plans and executes morning and evening all-camp worship sessions in a VBS-type style.

Can’t come to Camp Hope for the entire week? We have day volunteer opportunities also!

Transportation/Check-In:

  • Volunteers are needed to assist with camper check-in and check-out at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. Check-in occurs on Sunday and check-out happens on Friday.
  • Volunteers are needed to help provide transportation to campers who need a ride to/from Mt. Bethel UMC.
  • Adults are needed to drive vans from Mt. Bethel UMC to Camp Twin Lakes, so our camper-turned-counselors have transportation to Camp Hope.
  • Each day at camp, an adult is needed to shop for supplies, wash clothes, man our “Camp Closet,” and run other errands.
