Alumni Spotlight: Alexis White

August 25, 2021

Join us in congratulating Alexis White as she enters her first semester of Law School at North Carolina Central University!

Alexis attended Camp from 2004 to 2009 and served as a C2C counselor and Intern with our Interns4Tomorrow program from 2011-2012.  Since completing Kidz2Leaders’ decade of programming, Alexis returned to serve campers as a Cabin Leader and Adult Counselor, and even served on Camp Hope Summer Staff in 2020.

During her junior and senior years of high school, Alexis participated in a dual enrollment program where she simultaneously completed her high school diploma while attending classes at Georgia State University.  In 2016, she graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor’s degree.

For the past four years, Alexis has been employed by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  Please keep her in your prayers as she begins the next phase of her incredible journey!

Interns4Tomorrow Successfully Complete Their Summer Internships and Celebrate!

July 26, 2021

We are excited to announce that our eight interns – Amir, Nick, Skila, Ngozi, Zionna, Khalil, Quay and Nilia –  have successfully completed their summer internships and shared their experiences on Sunday, July 25, at the Intern Celebration.  Business coaches, board members, friends and family gathered at Olde Towne Athletic Club where each intern made a presentation with highlights of their experience.

Shout out to our business coaches – Melissa Davis, Jordan Martin, Mike Gilliam, Katie Conway, James Cooper and Austin Edmondson – for the many hours they have invested mentoring our students!

And, of course, we are so thankful for the businesses that allowed our students the chance to work and learn this summer – CIO Partners, Jackson Healthcare, Marietta Center for Advanced Academics and Refuge Church.

Here are just a few photos from the Celebration!

Interns4Tomorrow are off to a great start!

June 14, 2021

All interns kicked off the 2021 summer with a final day of preparation at Jackson Healthcare, where they practiced their “elevator pitch”, participated in a series of mock interviews with JHC professionals and sat for their professional head shots.

Everyone reported to work on Monday, June 7, to begin their three-week internships.  We are grateful to Jackson Healthcare for hosting us for the day of final preparation.  Thanks to our four business partners who have graciously welcomed interns this summer – Jackson Healthcare, CIO Partners, Marietta Center for Advanced Academics and Refuge Church.

2020 Impact Report

March 1, 2021

“The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”
Matthew 7:25

This verse so aptly describes the challenges of 2020, yet our house did not fall – thanks to Jesus, our rock! Read our 2020 Impact Report to learn all that we were able to accomplish, through the unwavering support of so many, and how K2L and our Board used this time to build our plan for the future!  Click below to read:

Fall Family Retreat was a GREAT SUCCESS!

October 13, 2020

We were so excited to host 15 families for an in-person weekend of fun, faith and renewal at Camp Twin Lakes – Rutledge.  Not even Hurricane Delta could dampen our spirits!  Many thanks to our staff, Volunteer Family Pals and wonderful folks at Camp Twin Lakes who made this possible.  Just take a look at the fun we had!

This is what it's all about. There is a cyclical This is what it's all about.

There is a cyclical pattern that results from the trauma, isolation, and instability that comes with parental incarceration. But that doesn't have to be the end of the story for the kids we serve. 99% of our graduates are living free from incarceration. Every session of summer camp, every internship placement, every connection made at a family camp weekend, every Hope4Christmas gift... it's all part of breaking the cycle.

Together, we're ending generational incarceration in our city.

Families of inmates report stigmatization and feel Families of inmates report stigmatization and feelings of isolation. Having a parent become incarcerated is one of the top ten adverse childhood experiences—a form of trauma, which is then compounded by the shame families often feel. Parental incarceration leaves brokenness and instability in its wake. Families shouldn't have to walk alone.

Kidz2Leaders invites families into a year-round support system, providing community, connection, resources, and programs designed to form long-lasting relationships.
